Our
second commitment is concerned with Christian development at every
level, with a particular focus on training leaders.
The
exponential growth of the Latin American church over the past
half-century shows Latin Americans to be among the most effective
evangelists in the world. Yet rapid growth without an infrastructure
brings its own pressures and problems: a rapid turnover of new
believers through insufficient teaching and discipleship, a lack
of space for questions and spiritual development. Added to this,
a large percentage of pastors are themselves untrained, many unable
to afford the luxury of full time study.
Latin Link is able to send people who are well-qualified to meet
some of these pressing needs: people to work in theological
education, to teach in Bible
colleges and night Bible institutes; to lead study groups of
pastors in isolated rural areas; to run short training courses;
to support churches by leading small groups; to offer pastoral
care and counselling.
We
help train Sunday school teachers, youth and student workers, we
teach in schools, and guide new Christians along structured
discipleship programmes.
Latin
Link is also invited to send people to share their knowledge and
experience with national missionary movements, to train and
prepare Latin Americans for inter-cultural mission in other parts
of the world.
